Two times a year, the Teachers Without Borders network invites professionals from the Finnish education sector to apply for volunteer positions to support the quality of Finn Church Aid’s education programmes.

The call for applications for Teachers Without Borders positions is open from 18.3. until 6.4.2025. 

Interviews will be conducted between 14.-30.4.2025.
Final selections will be announced to the applicants latest by the 15.5.2025.
A basic training is organised for successful applicants on the 4.6. at 4:30pm (online) and on the 7.-8.6.2025, in Helsinki. Please reserve the dates in your calendar to ensure that you can participate the training.

In a nutshell: you must have a degree in education and at least two years of relevant work experience, either the degree or the experience must be from the Finnish Education Sector. We also require excellent collaboration skills and flexibility, as well as a willingness to learn and share knowledge with colleagues working in different contexts.

Volunteering in-country is full-time. All expenses are covered, and a small daily allowance is paid. Distance positions are carried out alongside one’s own work. Distance work is compensated with a small remuneration, while smaller-scale remote work is carried out on a strictly voluntary basis.

We are looking for ten education experts with specific expertise in developing or implementing career guidance and counselling at different grade levels, teacher training, early childhood education, teaching in crisis situations, psychosocial support as part of teaching, or inclusive and learner-centred pedagogy.

Volunteer placements (in-country volunteering)

Volunteering in-country is unpaid, but the costs of departure and volunteering are reimbursed. We also pay a small monthly allowance to cover living costs in the host country.

In-country support to Kenya

Supporting learner centred pedagogy in Kenya

What?  FCA Kenya is looking for a Finnish education specialist to support teachers and principals in Kalobeyei Refugee Settlement in late summer 2025. The volunteer will be strengthening local teachers’ pedagogical skills, including inclusive learner-centred pedagogy, classroom management, and formative assessment during learning. The volunteer’s tasks will include strengthening the psychosocial support and skills of teachers as well as other education sector actors through training and mentoring. You will also develop and update training materials.

 

Who? We are looking for one (1) volunteer for Kenya. The person we are looking for should have strong pedagogical skills in primary or early childhood education and be passionate about mentoring and supporting teachers and other educational staff. Knowledge of special education, skills in formative assessment and experience in designing and delivering in-service teacher training will be considered an asset. You will also be an initiative, adaptable and flexible team player.

 

Where? Turkana Province, Northern Kenya

 

When? 3 months, from June/July onwards

Inclusive education in the Palestinian Territories

What? In the midst of a constant state of emergency, school creates security. Finn Church Aid’s office in Palestine is looking for Finnish education experts to strengthen the capacity of local teacher trainers, teachers and other education sector actors, especially in the areas of inclusion, psychosocial support and special education. Volunteers’ tasks will include organising training and workshops based on a needs assessment for teacher trainers and primary school teachers and principals. During the autumn, the pedagogical skills of teachers will also be strengthened in distance learning; and university teacher students will be supporting in the areas of inclusive and special education.

 

Who? We are looking for 1-2 volunteers for the Palestine region who have experience in: working with inclusive and special needs education; or expertise from a teacher training college, particularly in the field of inclusive and special needs education development. In addition, we hope that you have expertise in psychosocial support topics for children and young people or teachers. The role will include close collaboration with local experts, developing and finding solutions together to creating inclusive learning environments.

 

Where? East Jerusalem and the West Bank, if travel is possible, taking into account the local and regional security situation

 

When? 3 months from August/September onwards

To Ethiopia as a teacher trainer?

What?  FCA Ethiopia is looking for a Finnish education expert to support the pedagogical skills of teachers in crisis context through training and mentoring. The volunteer’s tasks will include contextualising the Teachers in Crisis Contexts (TiCC) training material together with the Finn Church Aid’s Ethiopia team, and disseminating the material through teacher trainer trainings. The volunteer’s tasks will also include developing and supporting peer mentoring activities for teachers in the Amhara region.

 

Who? We are looking for one (1) volunteer for Ethiopia. You are the person we are looking for if you have strong pedagogical skills in primary or early childhood education and are passionate about mentoring and supporting teachers and other educational staff. Work or equivalent experience in the field or training in crisis situations will also be considered an asset. In addition, we hope that you have expertise in psychosocial support topics for children and young people or teachers. You should also be self-motivated, adaptable and a flexible team player.

TWB distance experts and distance volunteers

TWB distance experts receive a small remuneration for their work. TWB distance volunteer positions, which require less input, are entirely voluntary. Distance positions do not require a full-time commitment, and it is possible to combine the tasks with other work.

Distance support to Ukraine

Developing career guidance and counselling systems in Ukraine

What? We are looking for education professionals to support the development of career guidance and counselling methods and practices in Ukraine. Volunteers will develop and pilot with Ukrainian colleagues a guidance framework, practical methods and a training package to equip teachers of grades 1-12, with tools to integrate student guidance as well as academic and career guidance methods into teaching.

 

Who? We are looking for three (3) innovative and courageous career guidance professionals or other educational experts who are passionate to develop and create new methods and materials to support student guidance, learning and career guidance in Ukrainian schools. Previous experience in producing teacher training materials and training teachers would be an advantage. Candidates should also have expertise in psychosocial support for children and young people or teachers. Creative thinking, a positive and flexible attitude and solution-oriented skills will be an advantage.

 

Where? Remote support to Ukraine

 

When? 4 months, from June/July onwards

Teacher trainer and early childhood educator to support colleagues in South Sudan?

What? The FCA South Sudan office is looking for Finnish teaching and education professionals to support the development work of the Teacher Training College in South Sudan, as well as the Early Childhood Education fundamentals. Pedagogical support will be provided through peer mentoring, workshops and training. You will also develop and update training materials. During the placement you will train local teachers, trainers and other education sector staff as well as FCA South Sudan staff.

 

Who? We are looking for two (2) volunteers, one of whom has expertise in teacher education, specifically in curriculum interpretation and implementation, teaching assessment, and mentoring student teachers or trainers. The other volunteer should have strong expertise in the early childhood education side: developing teaching and learning materials and supporting the work of early childhood teachers.

 

Where? Remote support to Juba, South Sudan, with possible 2-4 weeks travel to Juba if the security situation allows.

 

When? 4-5 months from June-July, with a possible 2-4 weeks of travel during the period.

Myanmar – Distance support for guidance and life skills development for young people

What? We are looking for an education expert to strengthen career guidance and life-skills development in non-state schools (e.g. monastic schools) in Myanmar. The remote expert will develop career guidance modules and training materials, as well as support local guidance counsellors’ skills in various subjects, e.g. supporting children and young people in social emotional learning skills. Together with FCA Myanmar experts, the volunteer will conduct workshops on various topics such as life skills, job search skills, career guidance and entrepreneurship.

 

Who? We are looking for one (1) remote expert to support bridging the gap between education and livelihoods. The education specialist we are looking for may be a guidance professional or relevant guidance and counselling skills may also have been acquired through other experience. The applicant should have an interest in supporting local professionals through distance guidance and mentoring. A positive and flexible attitude, solution-oriented skills and cultural sensitivity will be an asset to the role.
