Teachers’ wellbeing is essential to the quality of education and the continuum of learning. Come and hear about teachers’ wellbeing in African context and how we can support it in the middle of challenging circumstances.

This panel discussion explores teacher wellbeing in African contexts, featuring insights from UNESCO IICBA, researchers and teachers.

Teacher wellbeing is vital for supporting the quality of learning and creating positive learning environments. Through highlighting systemic challenges, this session aims to offer insights into what supports teacher wellbeing and how it can be strengthened across diverse educational settings.

The session includes insights from the Häme University of Applied Sciences and Dar es Salaam University College of Education, who are currently collaborating in a teacher wellbeing research project supported by the European Union funded Regional Teachers Initiative for Africa.

The Global Learning Crisis – Opportunities for Finnish Teachers on International Arenas (Sat 24.1. at 12.45-13.25, Speakers’ Corner (in English)

A silent yet immense crisis is unfolding across the world: millions of children are deprived of access to quality education. At the same time, global responsibility and solidarity are being questioned – now, more than ever, we need a shared commitment to building a sustainable future through education. 

This discussion delves into the global learning crisis, the necessity of global responsibility, and the ways Finnish teachers can be part of the solution. Our panelists will share their personal stories and explore the significance and opportunities of international education cooperation – both remotely and in the field. 

Come and hear how you, as a teacher, can be part of a global solution: learning, sharing your expertise, and engaging in international volunteer work and assignments. The world needs action for education – and you can make a difference.

From Refugee Classrooms to Global Insights: How the Superstar Teacher Digital Toolbox Empowers Educators in Kenya (Sat 24.1. at 13.35-14.00, Speakers’ Corner (in English))

In packed classrooms in refugee settlements, teachers lean over smartphones, tools many once thought had little place in teaching. With the UNICEF Superstar Teacher Toolbox, they are discovering how to turn everyday devices into powerful enablers of learning. Come and hear how the UNICEF Superstar Teacher Toolbox is equipping refugee-settlement teachers to use technology as a teaching tool in low-resource classrooms.

UNICEF’s Global Learning Innovation Hub (Helsinki) and Finn Church Aid / Teachers Without Borders present effective learning solutions from Kakuma–Kalobeyei (Kenya) refugee schools. Field trainers used the Superstar Teacher Toolbox as the core training material – supporting 70+ ICT coaches and teachers in Kenya. The classroom experiences feed back to further develop the Toolbox and refine globally usable, evidence-informed guidance.
